Floodwater spreading weirs

This category of FBLS makes use of a series of weirs to manage and spread floods for rehabilitating degraded land and enhancing groundwater recharge. When the floods come and the water level in the perennial river rises, the floodwater water will be spread to the lands on both sides of the river and subsequently guided back to the river. This technique will make sure the flood water is slowed down and lands alongside the river can benefit from the water. On top of that, it will prevent the floodwater from eroding the land and enhance groundwater recharge.

Flood water spreading weirs are often combined with roads which combines multiple beneficial uses.
